MENSTRUAL HEALTH MANAGEMENT
Background
This project is a result of a mindmap on how we as design researchers can be listeners, observers, creators, or learners. And I chose to be all through social design. And one of the issues that plagued me as a girl in Northern Nigeria was the issue of Menstrual Hygiene Management.
Method
One of the problems is that the communities considered menstruation an unclean and shameful experience and I used secondary research methods, data visualization, and my personal experience to design the wicked problem. The data was gotten from a research report conducted in Nigeria by UNICEF. The study was launched to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of menstruating schoolgirls on menstrual hygiene, and the environmental school challenges affecting menstrual hygiene management (MHM.). 12 schools were randomly selected from both rural and urban communities in three geo-political zones in Nigeria.
The Problem
One of the problems is that the communities considered menstruation an unclean and shameful experience and treated school girls accordingly.
Proposed Intervention
Sensitization should be organized in communities. This should be done verbally and visually and/or with the use of posters and applications in different languages to reach a diverse audience.
