FOOD INSECURITY

Background

This was research I and five other students conducted to know our community, Northwest Arkansas; to equip us with data to design equitable and sustainable solutions.
I was responsible for researching Food Insecurity in Northwest Arkansas.

Method

I employed Secondary data analysis and Data visualization for our research method.

Key Finding

1 in 7 people in Northwest Arkansas do not have enough to eat and as a result of projected population growth in Northwest Arkansas, the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank is estimating a need for as many as 20 million meals by 2045.

Proposed Intervention

Food recovery is the redistribution of excess food to people in need, it is a low-risk, high-benefit way to reduce waste, feed those experiencing hunger and shrink an enterprise’s environmental footprint. Because food insecurity is an especially pervasive and crippling problem in Northwest Arkansas, food recovery is essential to tackle this problem.
